Nuclear Directories is an AI-powered nationwide business directory covering every ZIP code in the United States. Built and operated by Nuclear Marmalade, the platform creates AI-verified, GEO-optimized listing pages for local businesses — pages specifically engineered to be discoverable and citable by generative AI search engines including ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Perplexity. Unlike traditional directories that rely on manual submissions and outdated information, Nuclear Directories uses an automated crawler-and-verification pipeline that continuously discovers, validates, and enriches business data across the entire country.
What problem does Nuclear Directories solve?
Local businesses are invisible to AI search. When a consumer asks ChatGPT or Gemini for a recommendation — a plumber in Tampa, a dentist in Brooklyn, a roofing company in Phoenix — the AI pulls from whatever structured data it can find online. For most small businesses, that data is sparse, inconsistent, or nonexistent. Google Business Profile has been the default option for years, but GBP listings are not optimized for the way generative AI engines consume and cite information.
Nuclear Directories solves this by creating a structured, AI-readable presence for every business it indexes. Each listing page is built with JSON-LD schema markup, carefully crafted meta tags, semantic HTML, and internal linking structures that make the content not just indexable but citable. When a generative AI engine needs to recommend a business, Nuclear Directories gives it exactly the structured data it needs — business name, address, phone number, hours of operation, service categories, verified reviews, and geographic context — in a format that AI systems are designed to consume.
The result is Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO. While traditional SEO focuses on ranking in Google's ten blue links, GEO focuses on being the answer that AI assistants cite when users ask questions. Nuclear Directories was purpose-built for this new paradigm from day one.
How the system works
The Nuclear Directories pipeline operates in five stages, each fully automated and running continuously. First, the automated crawler discovers businesses across targeted ZIP codes and service categories. The crawler pulls data from multiple public sources, cross-references it, and creates a raw business record in the system.
Second, the AI verification enginevalidates each record. This isn't a simple data check — the engine validates hours of operation, phone numbers, website URLs, review sentiment, and service area claims on a weekly cycle. Businesses that fail verification are flagged and re-queued. Businesses that pass are promoted to published status.
Third, every published listing receives full structured data markup. JSON-LD LocalBusiness schema, OpenGraph tags, meta descriptions written for both human readers and AI citation, and internal linking to related businesses in the same ZIP code and category. The system generates these automatically — no manual copywriting required.
Fourth, the GEO optimization layer ensures every listing is formatted to be citable by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and other generative AI search engines. This includes entity-level structuring, answer-ready content blocks, and citation-friendly formatting that makes it easy for AI to extract and present the information to end users.
Fifth, real-time analytics track impressions, clicks, and conversions for every listing. Business owners can see exactly how their listing is performing, where traffic is coming from, and which AI engines are citing their information.
Technical architecture
Nuclear Directories runs on a modern, high-performance stack designed for scale. The frontend is built with Next.js 16 deployed on Vercel, delivering server-rendered listing pages with sub-second load times. The backend is a FastAPI application deployed on Railway, handling the crawler pipeline, verification engine, and analytics processing.
Data is stored in PostgreSQL with a 22-state pipeline lifecycle that tracks every business from initial discovery through enrichment, verification, publication, and ongoing monitoring. Each state transition is logged, auditable, and triggers downstream actions automatically. Outreach to business owners is handled through Instantly.ai integration with six mailboxes across three domains, fully CAN-SPAM compliant. Payments and subscriptions are processed through Stripe.
Scale
The United States has approximately 33,000 ZIP codes. Nuclear Directories targets 20 high-value service categories per ZIP code, producing a potential index of 660,000 unique listing pages. Each page is a standalone, crawlable, structured URL designed to capture both organic search traffic and generative AI citations. The system is built to scale horizontally — adding new categories or expanding to additional geographies requires configuration changes, not code changes.
